I used to have 2 Kicker CVR 12's in my 4runner with a Kenwood Amp. I recently upgraded to the kicker 750.1 amp, and 2 of these type rs. With the amp only turned up halfway I am blown away. People will always try to go cheap with speakers. But trust me, spend the extra dime for these subs. It is totally 100% worth the money.

The Alpine Type R 12" is worth 5 stars all day everyday! It is the hardest hitting sub for the money and is as crisp as could be. I have this sub in my new truck, my boat and in my old truck.

My whole mobile sound system is Alpine. Without the subwoofer, I just didn't have enough bass for my pleasure, so I added an Alpine mono amp and this 12 inch subwoofer in a single-speaker ported enclosure (0.75 inch MDF), . If you're going with a single subwoofer (and not a dual box), then go with a 12 inch or larger; you will be happier you did.
I installed the speaker into the box myself, it was very easy to do. I guess so many subwoofers are installed in bandpass boxes, that Alpine doesn't include speaker covers, so I had to spend an extra $20 for that, but it was well worth it. You need one if you want to protect your investment.
I have the amplifier set up to pass 50 hertz and below, so it only catches the very low frequencies and it sounds really great.
