I am a glider pilot and this radio is excellent for gliders. It is small so it is practical to keep it in the tiny cockpit of gliders. It is not intuitive like a telephone, you must carefully read the instructions if you have never used it before. But once you read the instruction, it is quite straight forward. It does not have the VOR receiver that on gliders is OK (we don't use the VOR), but if you need a spare VOR receiver, you might want to get a different model. I would say that for power pilots, this radio is a good choice as backup or spare (still keep in mind that it does not have the VOR receiver). And this radio IS definitely robust. I already dropped it on a dirty runaway while doing the wing runner. Just a little scratch and nothing more.

I love the compact size. Battery life and ability to switch the single knob on top from Freq. to Volume. Lots of functions and good scan. Great radio for the money.
