It never even gets hot to the touch. This amp plays loud and clean. I have one of the loudest system's in my city. And my Neighbor's want me DEAD. Great choice for woofers, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: JL Audio G1700 (Electronics) I use this to drive a single 300 watt JL woofer and it delivers a superior snappy bass response (sealed non ported enclosure).If you just want thumping and don't care about accuracy you can shop elsewhere and save a few bucks, but if you actually want to hear an accurate bass reproduction on every nuance and tone with power to spare, look no further. This one definitely sounds great!. Although I am only driving 1 300 watt woofer, it fills my car with loud clear undistorted bass like I've dreamed of for so long. I'm so happy I chose well. Not only can it easily handle the power (it's under-rated) but unlike other systems designed for loudness only, this one gives you the best of both worlds by sounding just as snappy with classical jazz and flok styles that can really test bass response tonal accuracy. My daily drive has been rejuvenated. I Picked up the G1700 on sale last week. As a musician and audio enthusiast, I appreciate good clean sound, but have always had a problem spending my hard earned dough on good amps. A great-sounding system is the result of many different components, but after installing this (and the JL Audio G4500 4-channel), I'm convinced I should have started here all along.Class D (highly efficient, cool running) technology is important in Tucson, where summer heat can make hot amplifiers hotter, robbing power from the system. I have this running a 10" Alpine Type R sub. Alpine specs rate the sub at 500W RMS, but this amp pushing 350W is more than enough bass.
